To keep control of the narrative & keep stoking racial fear in order to try & prevent working class & poor Americans to unite. Keep it racial strife rather than Class Struggle!
In real life, a few red states which currently don't teach it are working to ban it. Critical race theory is taught in very few places - the "outrage" against teaching it is simply a racist dog whistle.
