‘Don’t Say Gay’ Bill Passes Florida State Senate
Axios reports the Florida State Senate has just advanced a bill being referred to as the “Don’t Say Gay” bill, which allows parents to sue teachers for not telling parents about any teaching decisions that could “critically affect a student's mental, emotional or physical health, or wellbeing.” The bill prohibits teachers from explaining to kids younger than ten “what homosexuality is,” but as written - could also include things such as “the trauma of receiving a vegetarian lunch” that the child didn't ask for.
Gee, I guess in these folk’s minds, if you don't discuss homosexuality - then it simply doesn't exist. Just like if you don’t take a COVID or a pregnancy test, then you can’t possibly be either COVID positive or pregnant. Remember, it was none other than Donald Trump who once told staffers to stop the testing for COVID, and we’ll have far fewer cases to report. That kind of logic’s pretty darn hard to argue with.
Anyway, I’m certainly no legal eagle, but if I’m understanding this new law correctly - if a child approaches a teacher and asks “what does gay mean,” the proper response legally for that teacher to make is “now listen here child, that isn’t something you should be asking an educator about - you’re supposed to save those type of questions for your dad and all his poker pals.”
Of course, there’ll be those who’ll claim these types of laws are repressive, but Gov. DeSantis argues that’s simply not the case. Hell, all Republicans are trying to do here - is simply politically regulate what students can or cannot read, what they can or cannot learn, and who they can or cannot become as a human being. That’s all! Why, you’d have to be “George Orwell” to have a problem with that.

How many teachers are leaving Florida. Since they are no longer needed there perhaps they could just move west.
Geezus. Are they really that stupid in Florida?.I mean, they've got the "Florida Man" app..guess they need a "Stupid Florida DeSantis law" app to go along with it..
I think the point of this legislation (and a similar one I wrote about last week), is to try and destroy public education. Just as Louis DeJoy is currently trying to do with the USPS.
@johnnyrobish Nooooo, really?
The lunatics are running the Asylum
