In wake of Lordstown layoffs, UAW stokes anti-Mexican nationalism. [wsws.org]
It's easy to criticize the UAW from abroad . We in the United States are trying our best to salvage what standard of living we can under the circumstances of globalization . And it's not going to benefit anyone , including the Mexicans , for economic conditions to be reduced to the lowest common denominator worldwide . The best outcome that can be reached under capitalism is fair trade . And if the American proletariat is getting sold out by the powers that be in Washington and Wall Street , in free trade deals , then of course they will be inclined to view their Mexican counterparts as being coolies and scabs .
The article isn't complaining about ordinary workers but fat cat union officials promoting nationalism and prejudice against Mexican working in order to distract the workers on how the union is betraying them. Did you miss the UAW bribery scandal [wsws.org]
@Ian-Duggan No I hadn't . Thanks for telling me .
