Seems appropriate to post something about the North American goofy Labor Day. Marxism was sure that the worker's revolution was to happen in an industrial country like the United States and Britain.
It happened in serfdom, Russia amongst farm peasants.
Why didn't it happen in 1917 North America? The Depression was yet to come
I'd argue Russia was never really communist, rather, a totalitarian state with communist and socialist underpinnings. The revolution can't happen there first. The society was too primitive to make the jump.
Shortly after WWI labor was crushed. The 20s was a terrible red scare. Pinkertons and cops beat the shit out of labor organizers, socialists, anarchists and jailed many. Eugene Debs was jailed. It was a rough time. Then the depressionof the 30s, then WWII and then the 50s red scare.
