More specifically it is Dominionism [rationalwiki.org] , as embodied by the New Apostolic Reformation [rationalwiki.org] , for one example , that is the problem . Evangelicals as a whole are not the enemy , only the religious supremacists among them are .

I hope not...
Evangelizing in many areas of our distorted culture is what we have. not just the religious fanatics.. consumerism, capitalist exploitation, materialistic lifestyle.. I say they are all culpable in our corrupted society.

I agree completely. Religion, as I have experienced and witnessed it, "could" be a relatively harmless, fairy-tale-based exercise in self-reflection, if its shame and fear-based elements could be excised from it. Instead, the fact that faith is elevated to the highest virtue makes its adherents sitting ducks to be duped by unscrupulous capitalist corporate greed, and its politician lackeys, into becoming footsoliers for the powerful. It fools them into supporting the very societal forces that undermine their own economic self-interest.
In other words, religion is a powerful vehicle for social control, but it is not alone in harming society. Raw greed and callous disregard for human wellbeing is in the driver's seat. (Can we say "Koch brothers?" )
