South African presidents and other African leaders say NATO provoked Russia with continuous expansion. Also point to Western hypocrisy about its own invasions:
Thank you, that is a helpful article in my interest in the Ukraine conflict from an international perspective. My initial reaction to the position that Russia was provoked by the eastern expansion if NATO is that this suggests that countries should not be free to join if accepted and that is problematic for me.
NATO is not innocuous. It and its members have launched numerous invasions and coups since WWII. You wouldn't be worried if your neighbor joined the Crips or the Bloods, with those gang members hanging out on the other side of your fence?
@Krish55 That goes to the reasonableness of Russia's reaction both in feeling provoked and in attacking Ukraine, but the fact remains that there really is no alternative to countries being free to join NATO.
As long as they act within the law, I try my best to be tolerant of my neighbors' freedoms. It is not who they are but how they conduct themselves if that conduct interferes with my peaceful enjoyment of my property that might concern although probably not worry me. I try to talk to my neighbors when a problem arises. Pretty sure I would not try to scare off the gang members by employing weapons to try to take over my neighbor's property.
@LovinLarge In this case, the gang members invited by your neighbor are your sworn enemies.
South Africa is a member of BRICS, and China would also prefer also to stay out of it.
