7 April 2019 - Diet Diary - Weather was lovely today, had windows open and did some work around the house. Didn't want to leave as little dog (not the one who dodged death last week) had a seizure at 7 AM and when she has one it is not unusual for her to have 1-2 more so I don't like to leave her home alone. She made it through the day without another and if we pass the 12 hour mark, we are usually in the clear for now. The old guy however, is doing better every day, he is able to lift his leg again and make a somewhat clumsy leap up the threshold to get back in the house. A week ago, I thought he had reached the end of his road.

Ate a load of roasted vegis today. Carrots and butternut squash. It was not the best squash but I had problems finding any last fall and the store finally had them on sale. Turned out OK, just not as flavorful as usual. I am planning to grow butternuts this year. Hope I have better luck than I did trying to grow watermelon last year. Don't want a truckload but would like to have 6-10 to use through the winter. After trying roasted squash, developed quite a taste for it.

Was not as diligent as I intended to be today, morning to mid afternoon went pretty well then got busy and didn't record promptly which is not wise. I used to have awesome memory skills but age is not kind to things like that. I don't think I went out of bounds but my recording came up to just under 1000 and I know I missed some things. Usually these are not big things, more like 3 chocolate covered coffee beans, which I just remembered. (OK, 24 more calories there) Despite being a bit lax the last 3 days, there has been a little movement in weight and today I hit my May 15 short-term goal. It is not solidified yet, I don't hold my breath until I have been at or under a "goal" for a few days. However, once I reach one, I can get back even if I have a bounce. Once it is solid, I will be only 4 pounds away from my final goal. The end may be in sight! Well, the end of the dieting part, the maintenance part will have to go on forever.

Glad to hear that you are keeping steady. Not far to your goal now! Today is my weighing day but the scales are not working (confirmed by husband, so not just an excuse) and my weigh I will have to wait for a new battery. I am sure I have lost a little, though probably not as much as the first week. It doesn't matter if I don't weigh myself as long as I keep up the momentum. I have started a new project - a wall hangi ng for my new house when I get it. So that should keep me going for a little while.

At least there was finally a little movement. I had been hovering between 146-148 for a couple months. Up a little, down a little from one day to the next. It does get kind of frustrating when it will not move down below the plateau. The rest will still be a challenge, I'm sure but it is nice to finally get below that range I was stuck in for so long.

The scales are only as important as each of us makes them. Missing weigh-ins, especially where you are just getting started, should not be an issue. Some people really discourage weighing too frequently, way back someone commented on this group about that, feeling that it encouraged frustration because of possible day to day fluctuations. That is not an unreasonable argument, although it doesn't work for me.

I found that daily or almost, weighing is a must for me while on maintenance. Now, on loss mode I could cut back but choose not to. On maintenance however, I want very close monitoring of weight because it take so little time for pounds to creep back on. Checking almost every day insures that I will know when I have put back on more than 2-3 pounds and when that happens, I take a day or two of "diet" to push that back off.

I know from my past diet experiences that when I stop monitoring closely, it is mere weeks before I can be up more than 10 pounds and then it just goes on. Not going to let that happen this time. I've started getting rid of my bigger sized clothes. I even bought new underwear! 😉

Good for you on starting a new project. I look forward to seeing what you are doing with your small quilt. Here is a block I did for a fundraiser the dog rescue held. Blocks were appliqued with designs related to Rat Terriers. This one was of my little dog, Scooter.

@DotLewis That's a nice picture of your dog. You are talented! I am not bothered about weighing myself - once a week is plenty for me at the moment though I agree it is more important on maintenance . I am making a seascape and really enjoying it so far.

Posted by JurneeI have to say, as an overweight karate instructor, this is the one patch that I was ok with never getting.
