Does anyone here take part in the Great Internet Mersenne Prime Search? Or is anyone interested in prime numbers? Or numbers in general? I couldn't find a group related to mathematics so I thought I'd ask in the introvert group.
Speaking of numbers getting my attention, today is the one and only time in our lives that it will be Half Dozen Day.....6/12/18
How about June 18, 2012? Or December 6, 2018?
@amakepeace A noteworthy observation. But it does not quite ring my bell the way an arithmetic progression does. Hence my arbitrary definition. It probably speaks to my OCD.....as when I return my grocery cart to the metallic holding area in the parking lot, and I see carts in random angles and positions...I usually push all the carts together into two neat rows.......in perfect order......Ahhhhh !
I have not followed formal theories of numbers as discussed here. I may check them out. But I have always enjoyed working with numbers. When I fill my car with gas, I usually try to anticipate exactly how much gas I will get for my $40, or whatever, before the pump stops. I usually am correct to within a one hundredth of a gallon. And that gives my satisfaction. If I am almost correct to a thousandth, I am giddy. And patterns in numbers intrigue me. Also, earlier in the century, when dates such as 11/11/11 were approaching, I would anticipate them like a total lunar eclipse...and take note on that day when the time of day was 11 seconds after 11/11. (The full twelve ones in succession. What a rush ! We introverts do have some peculiar forms of entertainment, don't we?

I do like the photo. And it is also reassuring that I am not alone in such odd fascinations. Now, if only you had been driving 33 mph......just kidding....safety first.
Outside of some fun with the kaballah, I gotta go along with Neil Young "Numbers add up to nothin" - Powderfinger.
Seriously though, primes are an interesting art form in nature....ulam pattern wise.
Number theory is not exactly my end of mathematics however the closest thing to it I have an interest in his I would like to see the twin Prime hypothesis disproved despite what the number theorists insist that it be proved any day now. My interest is more in ring algebra and pseudo metric topology
Interesting. I had a look at the Wikipedia article on twin primes. What would you like to see it disproved rather than proved?
