I'm curious as to whether other introverts like myself experience the same feelings with regard to social media...for example, being in a chatroom...is that overwhelming?

I get that most people will feel confident enough online to be a little extra...does that affect you?

Personally, I feel that my issue of being an introvert has evolved into a general feeling of impatience with certain types of people...not to be a bitch, but I know what the cost to me is when I spend time and energy with specific kinds of folks...and I pre-decide not to do it...and I find I'm making those same types of decisions with online contacts as well...

I tend to take social media a bit at a time. I have not been in a chat type group in years so it is a bit weird for me. I too deal with impatience as well. I really don't think it has anything to do with being a bitch, it is just impatience and too much to deal with. Other times I am completely absorbed into social media and spend way to much time. It just seems easier to deal with people online than in person.

I have never had an enjoyable experience in a chatroom.

Never liked social media. From trying AOL in the 90s to Myspace and Friendster to Black Planet to Facebook, it always was just frustrating and anxiety inducing. This site is my first exception. Frankly I'm gladly surprised I still come here daily.

I don't do the chat room. It is not enjoyable at all.

I have no interest in chat rooms. I can’t imagine that changing. I sometimes take days to reply to one individual online. I can’t imagine it being enjoyable being in a rapid fire typed conversation with a number of individual.

Totally agree. I can't type that fast, and it gets confusing.

I tried chat and if it is just one other person and me, I kind of enjoy it, assuming we have something interesting to discuss. When there are multiple people, such as chat rooms, I quickly get uncomfortable. While I am able to type reasonably fast, know the keyboard and took typing when in HS. Not real fast but 30-40 wpm but fast enough to get my thoughts out without excess delays in a back and forth.

My problem is I tend to give lengthy, detailed responses, expressing opinions, observations and insights in multi-paragraph comments. This does not work well in a chat room setting where most who handle it well make short, often 1 sentence comments then skip on to the next short comment. I don't do this well. When my train of thought is rolling, it is hard for me to cut it off between cars.

So, yes chat rooms tend to be overwhelming to me. Even if the topic at hand is interesting, I am unable to get my thoughts on it out before the subject has moved on to something else, rendering what I have typed "extinct" in the conversation. I quickly become frustrated and step out.

@slydr68. I hate text... best way to miscommunicate. Much prefer voice calls or occassional video call... Only way to get REAL. If folks don't wanna get real, they have no business on a dating site, IMO.

In my opinion , being careful about who you get into discussions with , is a great way of managing your abilities and interests . Some folks are simply not worth getting into discussions with . I've blocked several on here , because I simply have no desire to to even read the s##t they spew , much less try to carry on an intelligent conversation . Which also means , I have no interest in the possibility of actually dating any of them . So , poof , they're gone .
