I'm very sorry for your loss, but bipolar was a word in ordinary non-medical usage before it was used in connection with your girlfriend's mental condition. I'm sorry if you took my usage of a common English word as a personal affront.

So was retarded, but we learned it hurts people. I get that people use it a lot, that's why I asked.

I'm not calling you a baddy for using it, I put that question out there rhetorically to point out that its probably time for people in general to pull out a thesaurus for another adjective when they are using medical conditions that are inherited and cause suffering.

Also, be careful with the word "but", I'm a firm believer in GRR Martin's take:

You're getting very upset that your words might have hurt others and you are taking it out on us for pointing it out. Instead of buying a dictionary for thousands of others, perhaps buy a thesaurus for yourself.

Off the top of my head, instead of bipolar, you could say you are :
wishy-washy
indecisive
hemming and hawing
blowing hot and cold
undecided
waffling
wavering
on the fence
of two minds

Usually for me it's "I'm glad that's over"
