I had an introvert's nightmare. I went to my son's Spring Band Concert. Four bands of the school. My son is in two of them. His two bands played first and last. So I was subjected to four sets of loud, loud brass instruments, long introductions, and three encores. Three hours!
Let me make this clear: This was great music, played by amazing kids and led by a wonderful man who loves our kids. These kids received the highest ratings during a recent music festival and adjudication.
I just found it way too much sensory stimulation. I thought my head was going to explode. When I got home I sat outside in the dark for more than an hour before I felt revived enough to talk to my family.
They make these fairly discrete, but fairly expensive earplugs that allow the full range of sound to come through but lower the volume considerably. Professionals who work in sound and lighting and stage production use them all the time and they may be worth the investment as your son sounds like he may stick with it.
I understand totally. After any assault on my senses, I hibernate for days. Itβs easy to get overloaded.
Congrats to your talented son!
