It's winter up here in Canada so everything is either dead or asleep as far as my gardens. I did manage to plant 250 tulip bulbs in pots today and 100 Irises and 100 Alliums in layered pots, we'll see what we get in a few months time.

I believe these are correct but I could be wrong. They were taken in June in my old garden. primrose gentiana fern leaf bleeding heart cinnamon fern rock garden (pieris in the foreground) aubrieta dicentra spectabilis saxifraga

This flower smells of death. It's pollinated by flies and difficult to grow in Nova Scotia. It managed to bloom by leaving in the ground and covering with leaves over the winter. I'm assuming the bulb gets bigger each year because the flower got ...

Viburnum X bodnantense is perhaps the best winter flower there is, nearly all though the winter it make these small but very highly scented flowers. If brought in to the house, even one small branch will fill the room with a hyacinth perfume.

A vase a bowl and some Holly from the garden, it seem enough to celebrate the winter solstice, at least for a lone male. (It cost nothing and will seem even better after a couple of drinks. ) Happy solstice to you all.
