"Feral" sunflower patch with bumblebees. Every year we get these 6 foot+ tall, multi-headed sunflowers growing next to our garage. Must be the sunflower seed we fill the birdfeeders with:

The unusual long flower spikes of Ligularia przewalskiae are coming out now in the garden down near the stream. Like a lot of flowers its named after a Russian general, who like many Russian officers back in Tsarist times doubled as an explorer.

I got this little guy about 5 yrs ago, a little splurge when it was less than a foot tall. It is a Dwarf Chamaecyparis Obtusa Gracilis. It is supposed to max out at 36", and with a western exposure it seems to like the afternoon sun and is now 35" in...
