Wow the flowers in the second photo look so much like those of Mimulus or Monkey flower. But I do recall camping in Death Valley under these low growing willows with amazingly ornate flowers, something like these. I wonder how closely related they may be?
I agree, they do appear very similar. The USDA website shows the scientific name as Chilopsis linearis within the family of Bignoniaceae. The linearis species appears to be the only species in the Genus. Monkey Flower is the Genus Mimulus in the family of Scrophulariaceae, so I wouldn't think they are too closely related. Dave's Garden website shows the Jacaranda Tree and the Tecoma Trumpet Flower bush in the same family as the Desert Willow.
Beautiful! I love them but they only last a few days before their beauty wilts.
I love Iris, just wish they bloomed longer.
They have developed rebloomers that bloom in the Spring and again in the Fall. I haven't specifically chosen rebloomers, but I have a few. The Fall blooms generally aren't as prolific as in the Spring, but the blooms are the same size and color.
