How can we help Mediterranean herbs survive the winter on a windowsill? I'd love to have a pot of common sage on the balcony during the summer, but it can't survive in a pot this far north, where its roots will freeze if they're kept above ground. On the other hand, keeping them warm in the relatively low-light conditions of the windowsill seems problematic, too.
Any ideas about how to overwinter them more successfully?
Use LED growth lamps.
Talk to people who grow plants indoors for one reason or another.
No, I don't yet but I'm aware that herbs may be a gateway plant that leads inexorably to gardening.
Let's find more gateways, then!
I have cats, and not many windows that the cats can have access to. So I only grow herbs outside in the spring/summer/fall.
Get a small grow-light on Amazon; here is one that goes for less than $20USD
