Spent most of yesterday outside, picking up debris, twigs and such, pulling weeds, trimming the thorn bushes, moving composted chicken coop and composted mulch, even putting down a few hardy seeds.
Anyone knowledgeable about forsythia? I've had it for many years and have transplanted with varying degrees of success. Now that a few blooms are opening, is it too late to transplant? I desperately need to work on my privacy hedge.
Pix of some of my crocus, last wk and yesterday.
Forsythia blooms early and if you cut off a branch before it blooms and place it in water it will grow roots. The general rule I follow is if it blooms late in the year split or transplant it in the spring. If it blooms early split or transplant it in the fall. Rules are only a guideline and meant to be tested. Good luck.
Thanks! That's a great rule of thumb.
Can you wait until after it blooms to transplant it?
I can, but as it's just starting I wonder how much difference it would make.
@meowmom I say go for it. The ground is pretty good right now.
