Ah! A ray of hope for the Monarch butterflies. This does not change the fact that Monsanto is immeasurably evil and needs to be driven out of business somehow.

Mike, I read the article twice and didn't see Monsanto mentioned. Why the anger?

MojoDave Level 9 Mar 30, 2019

There are bunches of articles on Roundup, and Monsanto is its maker, as well as the patent holder for various gentically owned crops designed to be immune. Much of the "public safety" discussions focus on questions of direct human health effects. That, however, misses the point that widespread sweeping use in and around vast stretches of crop lands that has led to massive destruction of a diversity of flora that humans blithely think of as weeds but which are actually critical habitat for many insects and other little critters, vital links in the eco food chain. We are succumbing to mono-culture aggriculture mindset and practice that is driven by mega-corporate profit motive and is shitting on the environment(i.e. contributting to mass extinction of countless species), not to mention sweeping away small farmers who are most likely to be doing relatively eco-balanced farming. Here are just a couple articles implicating Monsanto specifically.

They are a poster child for heartless corporate greed.

...thanks for asking "why the anger"

I let the milkweeds proliferate in our fields

Yay milkweed! Screw the neighbors who don't like it! Lol
I have no milkweed, which is why I am having to plant it. The swamp variety, a. Incarnata, seems most likely to tolerate my conditions.

My fritillaries are out in numbers right now, the cold front this weekend will slow them down, but they are here to stay until the county sprays for west nile virus

They've been stopping by my place here in Southwest Texas. Thank goodness my milkweed is coming back quickly from its haircut!

Your box ought to be there tomorrow or Saturday. After checking my old records, it will be late April or early may for the deep purple sprouts.

@glennlab Thank you so very much Glennlab! My son is coming over today to put my trellis up for this flower.

One year , I drove to Mexico city . On our return trip , I saw a line of butterflies , so many , that I stopped the car and we got out to see where they were going . It was a wooded area that they were flying into and joining a lot of others already there , but it wasn't the orange Monarch , they were blue .
