@AstralSmoke One course in Entemology, quite a few in Ecology. They're symbiotic with many flies and wasps.
It's actually a rather morbid relationship; They flies feed off the aphids "honeydew" - and the aphids, in turn, sacrifice their bodies (not willingly) because many wasps and flies lay eggs inside the aphid's body. The babies then eat the aphid from inside out.
