My absolute favorite is dandelions! Plucky! Cheerful! The median strips above Hartford CT are absolutely Golden with them in spring!

They are like tiny sunflowers to me - full of happiness

Yes! If we care about the food web, we should respect those "weeds."....at least the native ones. A lot of insects depend on them, and birds and other critters need those bugs. Especially in spring, it is important to resist the neighborhood social pressure to mow all those blooming weeds down to mere lawn. When we do that, we're killing the environment.
Everyone IMHO should read one of Doug Tallamy's books or search him on YouTube. He's the "John the Baptist" of environmental science. At least in the U.S., we've destroyed natural habitat of some 95% our all the land territory of this huge nation. 95%!!! That is disastrous. That means we are well on our way to mass species extinctions and have got to counter that as best we can by supporting native plant diversity in our individual properties. Expansive lawns and invasive alien plant species that the wildlife cannot even eat are the enemy of our eco-survival. (Ehem...stepping of my soapbox, now)

You can get on your soapbox anytime you want! Especially if it is my post - people need to see, listen, read, know!

@Heidi68 Yay righteous indignation for the environment!! πŸ˜‰

Dandelions are an important part of the food chain for bees, and they have many beneficial effects for humans. I love my dandelions.

They were orignially introduced for use as greens, they got replaced by better plants, but they didn't want to leave.

I think they are so pretty, bright & happy!

Dandelions are the first spring time fresh vegetable in many places . As good as swiss chard or beet greens IMO .

weeds are only weeds if they are growing where they are not wanted, otherwise they are just plants. I've had people call grape hyacinths, blue bells, and irises weeds. If you like them, they are flowers.
