Ooh! Just came home from a long work week (i.e. working in healthcare during the Age of Covid-19). Took a quick stroll around my plant friends, and....was greeted by my FIRST DAHLIA OF SPRING! 🥰

Dhalias bloom in the spring? Well, it is Louisiana.

BitFlipper Level 8 Mar 20, 2020

Lol. Yes, it IS Louisiana. My roses, Rudbeckia, and Gaillardias never even stopped blooming this past winter. Cheerful but Bizarre.

How beautiful. The flowers don't know the world is going crazy right now. Lucky us! Hope you're doing well.

Sometimes the smallest things make the largest impacts. Lovely!

And how are you holding up?

Thanks for asking. Life is an adventure. I work in outpatient psychiatry, but we are a part of a medical complex. Every day is bringing new rules and procedural adjustments. Just started my first therapy sessions by iPad video. It has taken a few days to set that up. Why we have video telehealth system completely limited to only Apple gadgets when our entire organization otherwise uses Windows computers and always has is a mystery to me. We are expecting shortly to shift our psychiatry services entirely or significantly to work-from-home arrangements. Problem is we cannot appropriately evaluate new patients without meeting them in person. Some patients also will not have smartphones or tablets to be able to connect.
We do what we can. My days have been a series of disinfectant wipes for surfaces throughout the department and vaguely sticky hand sanitizer. Our town has marked its first handful of confirmed virus positive patients in the past two days. Tests still take painfully long to process, and as everyone knows there are not nearly enough. At times these, I guess a philosophical Outlook can be helpful.

@MikeInBatonRouge I am living the same carousel as you, supervising a psych/therapy clinic attached to a hospital center complex. Averaging 4-6 bulletins/email instructions daily, each one replacing part of another. Patients and staff alike are showing increasing anxiety over the current situation, some willing to use telephonic visits and others frightened more by it. Trying in vain to complete an onboarding and hire new desk staff, both with amazing success on the horizon. Monday?? There are several possibilities, and perhaps locked doors. Whew!

@tinkercreek, @MikeInBatonRouge I used to work in the field. I can only imagine the complications - particularly with any anxious or paranoid clients - it's going to make continuity of care really rough for a while.
And these aren't the folks best able to afford tech if that's what becomes needed. Obviously.

Keep doing what you can. And take care of yourselves! 💜

@RavenCT Thank you! Must admit, I'm getting a bit sensitive to all the congratulatory posts to "doctors & nurses'. And just what/who do you think it takes for them to do their work?? 🤷♀️

That adds to my spring joy of spotting my first hummingbird visiter of spring last Sunday. They are always too quick to snap a picture, lol

A nice welcome home!
