Birdhouses & Grackles.
Two of our "gourdhouses", already occupied by sparrows, now are housing nesting Grackles. Linda is NOT pleased. I'm fabricating additional traditional birdhouses out of that scrap fencing. But I'm not sure how close to each other in trees you can place them. What's the minimum social distancing for birds?? 😷

That makes me recall when my students were on a "birdhouse-making" kick...in the 70's -80's....I gave out plans; and lots of kids made some great ones. Our H.S. Ecology club sold them for a profit for a few years...

Did you know that if you want to keep the very aggressive starling from taking over birdhouse nesting of shyer native birds...all you have to do is mount a mirror in the back of the box opposite the entrance? They're so aggressive that if they see their own image they scram...although the science is still not solid on this;

Great advice !

Make them different types and give them different hights and orientations, you can put as many up as you like just don't expect every one to be used, they will pick their own favourites and space themselves out.

None when it comes to euro sparrows & starlings. Murderous & invasive. Let them lay eggs, one per day up to 5, then make a mini omelette. She may lay up to 3 more.

Can you use a smaller doorway to increase the chances of getting the right size bird ?
