What zone are you in? Sunken greenhouses need passive and active help in zones that hit -40

How do I find out?

@ReubenDS [perennials.com]

@SnowyOwl looks like 4b is appropriate with a low of 1-3 days in February of -40

@ReubenDS Check out Eliot Coleman, he has a lot of good information for people who want to grow year round with unheated greenhouses. You may need some auxillary heat on the worst days but there are ways around that too, including putting a compost pile inside your greenhouse and piping the heat to your cold hearty plants.

@SnowyOwl I don't presume I will ever be able to have an unheated greenhouse. I'm assuming sub-frost layer air handling will be able to stabilize temperatures. If need be I can do vertical geothermal heating. Does that sound viable?

@ReubenDS Try to think low impact not overkill, check out what Eliot Coleman has to say, he has years and years of experience that you can draw upon instead of trying to reinvent the wheel for yourself.

@SnowyOwl I've only read a tiny portion of his philosophy but I see the point. I don't think minimalism is his goal though. Sorry but I've reinvited the wheel a hundred times already, quitting seems pointless at this stage.
