Waldmeister - for all my German friends here.
Many years ago, I ordered and planted several dozen plugs of Sweet Woodruff- Waldmeister in German. This Spring, the plant has spread across a large area in the garden; and I am about to harvest and dry the flowers. Sweet Woodruff is a favorite German flavor. May wine is flavored with it; so is chewing gum, jello and candy and Brause, a German powdwer to make a fizzy drink with.
I have never found anyone who knew about Sweet Woodruff outside of Germany. The herb needs to be harvested when the flower is blooming, hung up in bushel ( like lavender) and enjoyed for the sweet, fresh mown hay fragrance and taste.. It is a perennial ground cover and very attractive.

Sweet Woodruff grows as a native forest wildflower here in Wisconsin. It and Button bush are the only two representitives of the Coffee Family (Rubiaceae) here up north. It grows very easily

I will have to look up button bush.

@Spinliesel
Buttonbush, though not showy, is a pollinator favorite, like most Rubiaceae members

@Leafhead, I found it on google. A very pretty bush. I will plant it in the fall. I have lots of room sine I do not like lawn very much. Thanks!

Today, Sunday, I'll be harvesting a few bunches. The beautiful aroma develops when the plant, and especially the flowers are dried.
I make little bunches and suspend them in ice tea or white wine ( if I have some) I may try to chop them fine and put them in scones or pound cake. Worth finding out what the proportions need to be.

I'm wondering if it is what I have coming up in a pot from last year. When it flowers I'll send a photo for you to confirm @Spinliesel.

Look forward to it.

Wow I have never heard of it before. I wonder if it can grow in Florida. Or would it be to hot here for it.

Donto101 Level 7 May 26, 2018

Yes, you are right. Florida is just too hot. But maybe it would grow indoors!
