I'm wrapping up the build of our new house and have turned my attention to the landscaping as it is the season for it. I built this stone retaining wall on the weekend and have added top soil on top of a clay base but now I have to decide what to plant. The location is partial shade and the area Zone 6. I want something that is fairly low maintenance because it is about 250' from the house and the nearest tap for watering. I have considered ferns, ornamental grasses, lupines and a few other deer resistant plants as we are on a main deer track to the river in the background so we have a nightly procession that travels through our grounds. Any suggestions for plantings would be appreciated.
Shade-loving plants, some ground cover, plant native! have fun! Looks like a lovely spot.
I'm obsessed with lavender.. I don't suppose that would grow there?
I have some lavender growing elsewhere on the property but that spot only gets afternoon sun from 2 until 6 so the lavender wouldn't do very well there I think.
