And it is catalog season! I have used both Johnny's Selected Seeds and Pinetree seeds for years. JSS has a great selection of tools and supplies, and Pinetree has cheaper packets and a nice variety. They are both in Maine, as is Fedco--I have ...

I have a possum living in my garden that eats everything I grow, so I stopped. I wish he/she would go next door to my neighbor, he grows some lovely things.

Sliced up a pineapple from my garden today. It was delicious. And, I have another in the kitchen to be sliced up next week, and 3 more near ripe in the garden.

My single Japanese eggplant is still producing, but I'm getting a little tired of it, so I may pull the plant. This will get cooked with Italian sausage, peppers and mushrooms in a marinara sauce for freezer meals.

Pak choi may be my new favorite winter veggie. This made a tasty stir fry. It's growing really well in 70's daytime and 40's nighttime. Does anyone know how well it can handle freezing temps? It can get down to 20F here.

I think we have to think about sustainability in the broader sense as we might think about our own garden. It is not an answer, not a goal as much as it is a process and a perspective. It is not a solution to be found but a process of maintenance ...

We have one of the many underused chat rooms--we need to get in there and dust it out. Will be there in 30 minutes, so 5:30 EST US. Perhaps something as easy as interesting garden stories? And for those looking for points, chat rooms are a source....

Finally put in two rain barrels this past summer. Felt great to be able to use rain water. Between that and using compost, I'm hoping to see increased productivity in the garden beds.

Last push of the season, snipped after 2 frosty mornings. The bloom looks a bit ragged, but the deep lemony fragrance of my little Intrigue rose is well worth enjoying as long as possible!

My garden is full of weeds, but it is far too hot to go and do anything about it, so I may as well have a cup of tea instead.
