A vase a bowl and some Holly from the garden, it seem enough to celebrate the winter solstice, at least for a lone male. (It cost nothing and will seem even better after a couple of drinks. ) Happy solstice to you all.

Everything where I am is almost dead. It is hard to keep anything alive in the garden. The heat, the lack of rain and the winds are killing everything.

This is from a front yard down the road from me. They always have a lovely array of plants and other ornamentation that offer a refreshing spot of beauty on an otherwise plain stretch of road. The cow is presumably from the Cows on Parade herd.

So I've got a plant that is blooming for the first time for me and I'm pretty blown away. It's a cultivar of Beschorneria yuccoides called 'Flamingo Glow'. The foliage is variegated as well but the flower stalk takes it to a whole other level. ...

Those beautiful tulips at the Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm in Oregon reminded me that there is someplace I can go for a wonderful April tulip show. Filoli is a large, old estate garden somewhere west of Standford university and they plant a load of tulips...

My Redbuds trees came in bloom this past week. I am particularly pleased with the 3 Redbud trees and 3 Mimosa trees (not pictured) because I planted them as seeds 20 years ago. Today, the Redbuds are these pink burst of color on a dreary rainy day. ...

My rose I bought last fall has really come out of it's shell. I cut it back in January and moved it away from the wall. It's a Princess Charlene de Monaco and the fragrance is potent.

I seldom have to turn my compost pile thanks to these little bug eaters. I've been seeing their work for sometime now, but today was the first time I saw them. Much rather they did in the compost than swim in the pond
