So my late husband used to tell me I really wanted to be with a woman because I want to talk and he didn’t want to talk. He also never cried. Ever. Not once that I saw at least. I tried to talk to him about his feelings. He would say “why? It’s not helpful.” But I want to talk about feelings. I also don’t just want a woman. I want human connection. I don’t know what to expect with vulnerability in a new relationship.
The night before I went to see my divorce attorney I bawled my eyes out... I was dry heaving, screaming inarticulately, and my heart was breaking. She came out and said she did not think I cared any more.
Everything I did was for her, for us, and to try and make things better. She was not listening.
Some men are more chatty than others, but I guarantee if you try to make a not-so-chatty one "talk", he will clam up tighter than ever. I myself dislike talking about feelings maybe more than most men, so I ask, "why can't you leave me alone?" A specific issue, fine, let's iron it out, but "feelings"? YUCK!
Men don't cry and it's not because it's unhelpful. We don't cry because of conditioning. If I cried my dad would just beat you harder and longer.
