Quite clever marketing by Disney really. Create a false controversy (has anyone actually met anyone who gives a fuck what colour people make their mermaids?) and gain lots of free publicity for your new movie release. Plus the bonus of feel good tossbags seeing the movie because they want to show support for the right of mermaids to be black.
