According to Webster's Dictionary, woke means "aware of and actively attentive to important societal facts and issues," especially issues of social injustice.
I copied this meme from Americans for the Separation of Church and State FB page.
"Things that make you say, Hmmmm "
I am posting this on Agnostic dot com because there seems to be a rift between the "woke" and "anti-woke" members of this original site, and some split off to join a more conservative site. I guess they are against the "woke" side of Christianity and more on the side of the greedy or power hungry side of the religious right? I don't know.
I still don't get what is wrong with being attentive to important facts and issues concerning social justice. I guess they think seeking justice and equality only belongs to certain people? I've dropped most of my super conservative friends, so I can't ask them.
Here is a perfect example of "Woke" going too far:
Companies going too far, or conservatives going too far to misunderstand the point? What a stupid commentary. If a company says something you don't like, don't buy their product. Easy as that. I don't eat candy, so I'm not affected by this imagined war on marketing practices of candy makers.
>>>Companies going too far, or conservatives going too far to misunderstand the point?
It's "International Womens Day". Hersheys picked a biological male to represent women on "International Women's Day". What "Point" are they making that conservatives have misunderstood?
>>>What a stupid commentary. If a company says something you don't like, don't buy their product.
I think that exactly what they are doing. The "point" of the negative commentary is to point out to people that Hershey's has gone off the rails. I never bought much Hershey's chocolate before this crazy commercial, so my "boycotting" Hersheys means nothing. All I can do is point out the silliness of the decisions made by Hersheys.
