You do know all trunks come equipped with Escape latches don't you? So make sure they're dead or at least very very unconscious.

Also I read books where those are disabled....

@EricTrommater Mines a '91 Mercury Gran Marquis LS, damn big trunk. My question, did that year, make, model have those latches? Asking for a (former) friend.
