I could never figure this out either.... Complete waste of money but then so were the "For members Only" idiots... $250 for a $20 jacket...

This bullshit started back in the 70s, only we did this to our jeans ourselves.
It wasn't until the 80s that they started being sold like this.
What is pictured above is just another "fashion" rehash. There isn't anything
original about it.
