As for #2 cats are far smarter than people give them credit for. It has to do with humanity's species bigotry. People think because trying to force cats to learn stupid pet tricks doesn't work they are dumber than dogs who learn them fairly quickly when the truth is the cat is training you....

Cats are easily trained, but only with live.

@Petter That's my problem! I haven't been using enough "eith live" to get mine trained.
@Lizard_of_Ahaz Not really. They used the toilet, came for rides in my open sports car, sitting on my shoukder, ate pigeons the caught in the bathtub for ease of vlearing the mess, walked "at heel" in town, .... All achieved through love.
@Petter They taught themselves those "tricks" you didn't teach them. I bet they don't do stupid pet tricks like sitting up on command like a dog though do they?...

I'd say the cat is going down. The overhanging slab would not be on the part of the stairs where you step.
