Funny, but that story/myth appeared in the latest issue of "Free Inquiry" [secularhumanism.org] A section has a compiling of why people left religion and that crazy story became too much for one person to bear so he left.
Funny that since Vikings wearing horned helmets IS only absolute fiction added to movies and the like for an extra bit of 'decoration as well as to make them even more scary, etc.
@Triphid True but there are also people who think that the world is only 6,000 years old so lots of fictional accounts making the rounds.
@Surfpirate Hey I live next door to one of those mate.
This actual Mormon theology, as once explained to me by a church elder. Fossils came from other earlier planets used to build the earth, and were a result of Noah's flood and were burried there by Satan to test man's faith.
Never underestimate the sneakiness of Old Nick and his trusty shovel.
They also believe that the moon landings were faked because the prophet Joseph Fielding Smith once said:
"We will never get a man into space. This earth is man's sphere and it was never intended that he should get away from it. The moon is a superior planet to the earth and it was never intended that man should go there. You can write it down in your books that this will never happen."
OH yes the moon is a superior planet because Joseph Smith himself, and Brigham Young the second Prophet claimed there are "Quaker" living on the moon and the sun.
As far back as 1837, I know that he [Joseph Smith] said the moon was inhabited by men and women the same as this earth, and that they lived to a greater age than we do -- that they live generally to near the age of a 1,000 years...the men as averaging nearly six feet in height, and dressing quite uniformly in something near the Quaker style. Hyrum Smith
So Quakers are supperior to Mormons, and can go to the Moon, but nobody else can? Got it.
Never heard that one before .
You are lucky then. As a kid in the JW's there were pictures of dinosaurs in some of the religious texts and this went with the explanation for the fossil record, all lies from Satan. Some Evangelicals had similar stories, loonie tunes.
