Student discovers a village in BC older than the pyramids. [archaeology-world.com]
More and more evidence has shown that the area in my part of the country has been settled longer than first imagined. More evidence to support this idea.
Misleading title. It would have been better to compare this find to Clovis sites in Southern France or east coast of the US. The size of the population involved in the BC site and pyramid building Egypt are significantly different. The level of technology between the two cultures is significantly different.
I guess my complaint is the unnecessary sensationalism by comparing to Pyramid building Egypt, when in reality they have absolutely no relationship to one another whatsoever. We have had substantial proof that migrations from Siberia to North America began sometime around 30,000 years before present(BP). At the same time a migration form southern France (Clovis tradition) to the east coast on North America occurrred following the edge of the Continental -Polar ice sheet. Micronesian migration to Central and South America was actively happening during this time.
Why bring Egypt into the picture at all? Poor journalism.
Clovis culture has never been found in Southern France. It was 1st found in the American South West. Ancient and Modern Indigenous Americans have a genome that is completely different from European/Asiatic genomes.
It is potentially of Denisovan lineage.
@t1nick There are major Difference between Clovis spear/arrow tips. Clovis tips are are distinguished by fine pressure flaking along the edges, broader towards the base and fluted in the center for better hafting to spears/arrows. Solutreans arrow/spear tips are pointed at both ends and less finely worked along its edges.They are broader towards the middle and are not fluted.
Clovis is a PaleoIndian culture that arrived in the Americas between 13,000 and 12,000 years ago.
@Charlene I know.
That was my specialty when I was an archaeologist. Dennis has substantial evidence connecting the cultures. We worked a Clovis -Foldum pleistocene spring site in the middle of the country. I was working with the doils and macrofossils on paleo and archaic sites. The NE coast is thick with Clovis sites.
Love this! It is wonderful that students (PhD) found it. So nice for them.
