what a delightful surprise when i learned that the black swan is not limited to the very west at the swan river in australia, but resident here in the nsw outback, at the darling, as well.

I saw this hummingbird outside my front door this morning. Sorry I don't know what kind it is but they seem to be here year round.

getting a wake-up call by this baby butcherbird, scrabbling for purchase on the slippery slope of my swag, made my day already at 6 in the morn. i love australian bush life!

So, to cut a long frustrating story very short, I decided to make a feeding station from an old wire antenna dish and a piece of 3/12 plastic pipe that would be totally pest proof and have plenty of feeding options, that was two months ago and so ...

Not a pretty feeding station but the birds are, here two pic’s showing Goldfinches, Great tits Blue tits and coal tits… Not great pic’s but you get the idea…

These rooks are are massive pest here with several hundred strong gangs, stripping unripe fruit trees, devouring the seeds put down by farmers and gardeners and taking anything and everything edible that is put out for pets or wild life, so very few ...

And the count goes up, I get a great lift just watching these little guys...

Queuing up for breakfast this morning, I have to get more feeders… I will make this the last post as the story ends with a ‘happy ever after'...

With a temperature drop to 3c – 37f this morning we had a few more for breakfast than previously, so I added another feeding option, seems to be working…

The first hard frost this year and breakfast turns to bedlam, it’s been like this all morning since first light... There were at least as many, if not more on the ground below the feeders… Getting to the point where I am filling the feeders ...

Didn't know 3 species of raptors would be this sociable

I found a flock of more than a thousand snow geese that had landed in some Amish fields, tonight. It's always exciting to see them during spring migration and the sheer number was mind boggling.

You can't spell Plover without "lover", lol. A couple of killdeer working on the next generation of killdeer. I stopped photographing before things got too graphic, lol.

I've seen the Pittsburgh falcons darting around buildings. Amazing flyers!

A beautiful nuisance: the European starling. These are such fun, lovely little birds. It really is a shame that they're such a harmful invasive here in the United States.

Just joined the group and thought I'd let folks know how my wife and I got into BIF pictures. My wife got interested in photography last summer and I wasn't getting to use my camera much so I bought one just like mine. We went to the Bosque in NM ...

We have red-rumped swallows nesting on our porch. They return every year. Sometimes the nest can be reused and sometimes it breaks and falls during the winter so they build a new one. This year they are rebuilding, but there seem to be three birds...

This bird can sew her nest together!

My state bird, the ruffed grouse. These guys are fairly wary, here in Pennsylvania. I count myself lucky to have been able to photograph this beauty.
