Fancy gifting a shag for Xmas?

Society Finches... I once kept a pair of society finches, like this little guy, as pets in a small aviary. They were really neat, with a cute little song and dance that they would do on their perches.

I just heard red-winged blackbirds for the first time this year! I'm so ready for spring.

Last one from today: male kestrel atop a telephone pole.

I know it's an invasive, but it's still a beautiful bird. Here's the mute swan that has been hanging around Lake Chillisquaque.

My favorite bird in Montana: the billed magpie.

It finally happened! The humming birds actually sipped nectar from the feeder while I was still holding it, post refill! Photos if or when it happens again...

I drove out to the Amish pond today after work to see what the wading-bird scene was like. I was not disappointed!

I worked the closing shift at the clinic tonight, so I went birding this morning. It's a shame the lighting was so awful because the birds were very cooperative. Red headed woodpecker, osprey with fish, great blue heron, the resident crippled snow ...

I got really lucky to watch this Kestrel some years ago in the Canary Isles, it was hunting lizards and it caught one and devoured it but it was about 100 yards away, so not great resolution...

And the count goes up, I get a great lift just watching these little guys...
