A sure sign that Spring isn't far off: the killdeer are back! It was only 19°F today, but three killdeer were still hunting the open water and soft ground along the edge of the Amish pond.

Some of the approximately 400 tundra swans I saw today. If you are in Pennsylvania and you're able to visit Middle Creek WMA during spring migration, I highly recommend it. It's free and the birds are astounding.

Visited Middle Creek WMA again today. Blue skies, much better visibility, and an estimated 75,000 snow geese!

Today, I visited Middle Creek Wildlife Management Area to see the huge flocks of snow geese and tundra swans. Unfortunately, it started to snow as soon as I arrived. I saw THOUSANDS of birds but I wasn't able to very clear photos.

I found a flock of more than a thousand snow geese that had landed in some Amish fields, tonight. It's always exciting to see them during spring migration and the sheer number was mind boggling.

Flightless bird feeder guests have come out of hibernation, they seem hungry.

Baby Heron... In case you are wondering what happened to the dinosaurs! My little Jack Russell Terrier, Edgrrr Allan Poe, chases Canada geese freely, but full grown Great Blue Herons give him pause and stop his little ass in his tracks... He knows ...

The first hard frost this year and breakfast turns to bedlam, it’s been like this all morning since first light... There were at least as many, if not more on the ground below the feeders… Getting to the point where I am filling the feeders ...

Harpy Eagles are big enough without their size being exaggerated like this photo does with eagle in foreground...

With a temperature drop to 3c – 37f this morning we had a few more for breakfast than previously, so I added another feeding option, seems to be working…

Missing my bird id books (lost in a fire) Any recommendations for great guides? I had Peterson’s, but ready for more detail

Goldfinch up close, I modified all my the feeders so they could use them, as they couldn't before, so it helped to observe their behaviour very closely…

My mother and cousin fed the Scrub Jays this week. They are so used to people they tend to land on your head! Found only in Florida, in limited areas.

A Green Finch interloper, at least from the Goldfinch's point of view... But I don’t mind seeing new-comers arriving, there’s plenty for all... Just for the few that like to view my efforts...

Queuing up for breakfast this morning, I have to get more feeders… I will make this the last post as the story ends with a ‘happy ever after'...

New Zealand Kea in flight... BREATHTAKING BEAUTY!

And the count goes up, I get a great lift just watching these little guys...

I was just blown away! I had to post this, I only ever saw 3 or 4 goldfinches in the last 2 weeks, I just got this shot with 7 but one is hiding behind the pipe, you can just see his rear end...
