Has anyone thought about retiring in Costa Rica? I think about it a lot, but can't decide.
Haemish1 comments on May 28, 2019:
I’ve never visited C. R., but heard many nice things about it. I’m not much for heat and humidity either and I’m guessing those occur there from time to time? I can see where the lower cost of living would be attractive (I wish I had more saved for retirement), as well as the climate and scenery. Have you visited, or do you have friends there? I’ve heard that Portugal is an attractive retirement destination too.

REDUCE - REUSE - RECYCLE - NY State does this.
Haemish1 comments on May 28, 2019:
A book I found very interesting is Cradle to Cradle by William McDonough. The author’s mantra is waste equals food, wether it’s in nature or the industrial cycle. He envisions starting at the design stage, so that water bottles would be biodegradable and even have a seed inside that would grow after being “tossed out” - farmers should beg for people’s trash to fertilize their land. Cars should be made of high quality materials that can easily be recycled. The book is made of plastic, and designed to be reused as a book - the ink can be washed off and reused as ink! https://www.google.com/search?q=cradle+to+cradle+book&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=en-us=safari

Good morning! Right on to today's question: Share an embarrassing moment in your life.
Haemish1 comments on May 26, 2019:
Here’s my most recent. Last week I went to the optometrist (I’m very nearsighted). After a routine exam, the Dr. said he wanted to try mono vision (where one contact lens is to correct for distance vision, and the other for close up. This sounded good to me since I’m tired of reader glasses for reading anything. The next day, I tried the new lenses for the first time. The right lens went in fine, but for some reason I had trouble with the left (the one to help me see close up). I was expecting a difference with the new lens, but this one seemed as if there was no correction at all. I did some reading that said it can take 2 weeks to adjust to Monovision, so I decided to stick it out for the day. As I was taking out my lenses to go to sleep, I found the left contact on the sink - I’d been without it all day:)
LICKSPITTLE.

Washington becomes first state to allow human composting
Haemish1 comments on May 22, 2019:
The wood chips we generated at a timber framing company I used to work for in Montana was given to the county to compost all the road killed animals they collected. Montana seems to have pretty open laws regarding human burial. A friend who died several years ago was simply wrapped in a shroud and lowered into the ground on his skis. The state only needed to know the location of the grave site.
Good morning! Here's today's question: How close and warm is your family?
Haemish1 comments on May 22, 2019:
I’m not particularly close to any of my family, but there’s no animosity either - we just don’t see each other very often. We usually enjoy ourselves when we’re together. My childhood wasn’t too great - dad was an abusive alcoholic. He and my mother were married and divorced twice by the time I reached 7th grade. I always had food, and a roof over my head, but there was never a great “family vibe” either.

It’s amazing that the amount of hand work they do can be included. Skills like that aren’t common in the US. Have you read Cradle to Cradle, by William McDonough (sp?). It’s a great book about recycling/sustainability. The book itself is made of plastic- designed to be reused as a book - the ink can be washed off and reused as ink. It changed my thoughts regarding how we live.
