Tommy19 comments on Aug 26, 2018:
So if hes made an offer...of impeachment, or stepping down?
mcgeo52 replies on Aug 27, 2018:
He's probably going to go for impeachment on the belief that the Senate won't convict. Unfortunately, he may be right. On the other hand, that won't be the choice he is offered. It will probably be more like: • Behind Door #1 is NY AG Barbara Underwood with a stack of NY RICO indictments against the Trump Organization, Jr., and Ivanka. If you choose this door, the indictments will be filed by noon tomorrow and by close of business the following day the state of NY will have seized or frozen every asset of the Trump Organization. You will die penniless in Sing Sing. • Behind Door #2 is Special Prosecutor Robert Mueller with his offer. You make a full confession on live TV (guaranteed great ratings, the greatest ever), resign, plead guilty to a federal felony or three, pay a serious fine, but not everything you have, spend a year or so in Club Fed, and go home. • Behind Door #3 is... Nothing. There is no Door #3. What's it gonna be, Donnie?

@Renickulous, so let me get this straight. •Bush lies us into two wars that result in the deaths of hundreds of thousands. • Obama orders drone strikes trying to clean up the mess caused by Bush, and hundreds of civilians die as collateral damage in those strikes. And you hate them equally??? WTF??? Trump stated in a taped interview that he fired Comey because of the Russian investigation. That is an open and shut case for obstruction. When Trump held the joint press conference with Putin after their meeting in Helsinki he was asked about reports by the US Intelligence Community that Russia had interfered with our elections. On TV in front of the whole world he sided with Putin. Russia had attacked us and Trump took their side. That is treason. And there will be more evince of treason coming out.

@Renickulous, you say, "paying off a sex scandal that happened before term in office is minute compared to all the atrocities from every president. Which shows you care more about small matters than real ones." You are completely ignoring the obstruction of justice, and all of the other crimes that are coming out, including treason. Even if it was only about the sex scandal, I called for the impeachment AND conviction of Clinton for lying under oath. It was a federal felony and he was guilty. We are still paying the consequences of the Democrats playing politics instead of doing the right thing in that case. If they had not given up the moral high ground, they could have held Bush and Cheney accountable for lying us into two wars. It was a matter of principle. Are you familiar with the concept? You are so outraged at Obama over killing hundreds of civilians; where the fuck is your outrage over Bush and Cheney lying us into two wars that killed hundreds of thousands of civilians? BTW, it was the results of those lies and those wars that Obama was dealing with when he ordered the drone strikes that you are so upset about. Oh, and as matter of principle, Obama should have sent Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, and the rest of that crew to the Hague to stand trial for war crimes and crimes against humanity. Why aren't you as upset about that as I have been for almost ten years? That is a legit reason to be upset at Obama., It sounds to me like you have no principles, just a hatred for Obama.

@Paul4747, I just realized that all of tRump's assets are in the trust managed by Jr. and Weisselberg. The feds or the state can go after those assets under RICO. Per the technical argument above I doubt it would be a good idea to have the feds do it, but there is absolutely nothing stopping NY AG Barbara Underwood and/or Manhattan DA Cyrus Vance, Jr. from seizing and/or freezing the assets.

@Paul4747, find me the source on Muller saying it is precedent that we don't charge sitting Presidents. Go ahead. I'll wait. The only source I've found was Rudy Giuliani saying that's what Mueller said. IF (note the full caps, not a typo) there is anyone at all on the entire planet less credible than tRump at this point, it would be Rudy Giuliani. And if Mueller doesn't indict, it would be because of a DoJ position paper that I understand that he doesn't necessarily agree with. That paper only covers federal indictments. There is a technical legal argument that the President cannot be prosecuted while in office because Article 2, Section 1 of the Constitution says, "The executive Power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America." Prosecution is an act of the executive, and the President cannot prosecute himself. While the issue has never been decided by the Supreme Court, that is a fairly strong argument, but even then it only covers the prosecution of the case, not the indictment. However, that argument only applies to federal charges. There is nothing preventing the prosecution of the President on state charges. The Manhattan DA and/or the NY AG could indict Trump and seize and/or freeze his assets tomorrow without violating the Constitution. If they did that, tRump would fold within 24 hours.

@Paul4747, I wonder why Trump sounds like a don? Could it have anything to do with the fact that his father was in NY real estate and had more than a couple of buildings built? Is it a total coincidence that Trump and Gotti graduated from the same private school; they were not classmates, but I wonder who else went there? Trump grew up in the mob. That is what he is. But at his core, Trump is a scared little bully. Give him the following choice and see what happens: • Behind door #1 is the NY AG and/or the Manhattan DA with a stack of RICO warrants and indictments. They will be issued by noon tomorrow and by close of business the following day every asset you had will have been seized or frozen. You will die penniless in Sing Sing. • Behind door #2 is Robert Mueller with the following offer: You admit to federal felonies in a televised confession. @d_day, even if Mueller were to produce such evidence how would you legally go about nullifying the election? It could possibly be done by an Executive order declaring the election fraudulent. I doubt tRump would issue that one. It could possibly be done by Congressional resolution, which means it won't happen until January at the earliest. And that wold cause a Constitutional crisis unmatched in the history of our country. We need to get tRump out and have the next President issue the EO.

@BBeberstein, if a majority of the Secretaries of the various departments agree tRump is insane they can invoke the 25th Amendment. That is not the same as impeachment, as it does not remove the President from office, it only gives the powers of the office to the VP.
