TATTOOS ...
what do you think of tattoos? .... like/ hate them? ... glad or mad you got one(s)? .... is it hard to get a job? ... do you worry about the health risks? [fda.gov]
I LOVE tattoos. I have 12 of them myself and will definitely get more (always planning for the next one). Never regretted any of them. Everyone I work with has at least one tattoo, and one girl has more than I do. Workwise, you can always get a tattoo in a place that can be covered up. No big deal. Most tattoos are very personal anyway so people you know may have tattoos in less visible places and you might not even know it. I don't worry about health risks because I go to reputable tattoo studios only, and most of my tattoos were done by an artist I trust. Also, you get what you pay for. Tattoos are ungodly expensive to get here, so you must really want a tattoo and have put a lot of consideration into it before getting a tattoo.
I don't care if some people don't like tattoos, as long as they don't mock those who want/have tattoos. There are some misconceptions out there about tattoos that get spread around by those who don't like tattoos and those really bother me.
Got my first and only tattoo at the age of 60. No regrets. I still like it. What other people do with their bodies is none of my business.
I don't mind tattoos, but when people litter themselves with meaningless and random things, it repulses me. I don't criticize in any way, it's just my thought on the matter.
@Holysock
Exactly. I find it repulsive, too.
I love my tattoos and plan to get more.
Also, I wouldn't believe Dr Oz if he told me fire was hot. He's a notorious and dangerous purveyor of woo.
When there well made and original yeah but when its all missmatch shit that look made by a drunk guy in a party no
I think tattoos are awesome. They're a form of expressionism and should be treated as such. Hating them speaks more about you than those who have them. I've never found it difficult to find work. There's worse health risks out there than the small risks associated with tattoos.
Not for me ever. Nighmares of concentration camps when tatooed numbers were forced on inmates.
I don't mind 'em on other people, although some folks do go a bit overboard. The ones that are religious also give early warning that a christer is coming. I've enjoyed looking at tramp stamps, but the circumstances probably had something to do with that. I am inkless, and neither of my kids have any. But hey, if you want some, it's your skin.
There are concerns about the solvents, the source and type of (chemical) pigments and, other ink texture modifier used to make the ink since that part of the industry is not well regulated (or lack thereof). There are many funky colours that haven't been around for that long which is also a concern for long term use.
Some research has determined that some of the pigments can end up in the nearest lymph nodes where it resides for many years or decades which is also a source of concern.
Would not be the first or only chemicals we put in our bodies that cause "concern".
@graceylou we ingest a lot of junk and ink is one that could create big trouble especially if you have a compromised immune system.
Dr. Oz advises people to think twice. His article "Immune system reactions to tattoos are potentially debilitating" explains:
@Earthling50 Am not a huge fan of Dr. Oz, thanks.
@graceylou I was serious (although it's complicated): [scientificamerican.com]
Probably safer than what I've eaten my whole life. LOL!
I dig them, but not all of them. I see horrible tats on people, but I’ve seen fantastic ones, too. I follow artists on ig from around the world and there are some amazing pieces out there. I guess it’s subjective. I’ve had no issues with jobs, but I’ve had the same one for years.
Your Daughter's new love of her life..[agnostic.com]
I go to the Tattoo convention locally and met artists from all over the world. I'm truly amazed by the Japanese tattoo artists. I love Japanese style tattoos.
@Mike1947 no daughter here
@graceylou I’ve seen some cool stuff coming out of Russia, too.
@NothinnXpreVails There are many talented artists out there. I would be honoured to be their canvas. New styles are coming out all the time and some are quite interesting.
@Mike1947 going to extremes ultimately will create challenges not worth having. This person didn't think it through.
@Earthling50 Police departments have binders full of Tatoos, making identification easier than mug shots. There's probably a national data base for them.
@Mike1947 true, and that was always one reason I never got any. Then my son fucking died. All I have right now are memorials.
I don't have any tattoos and never will.
"What were they thinking?" I wonder, when I see full sleeve and leg tattoos. Repulsive. It shows poor judgment and impulsiveness.
Don't get me started on face and neck tattoos.
At Planned Parenthood, I see a LOT of young women with garish tattoos....one girl yesterday had them on every visible part of her body, except the face. But they were on her neck, hands, arms, legs, feet, bottom, abdomen....and they were all black & white and U G L Y ! I wonder what she'll look like in 20 years!
Dr. Oz has some good info on tattoos that you might want to check out ...

Something's not right about Oz.
Isn't newsmax like Fox 'News', Alex Jones, Breitbart kinda site?
Some good info out there on the 'dark side' of tattoos ...would be worth checking out:
There is even a facebook page called 'Tattoo Nighmares' [facebook.com]

Gotta be in a place where one can cover it up for polite society. Assuming there is still a polite society somewhere out there. Must be a licenced practitioner. I love the native culture designs. The Maori, Hawaiian, tribal. But not on me.
Everybody in Tampa has tattoos.
I am working on ideas for a tattoo that would replace my MedicAlert bracelet. The bracelet does not always stay on and it scratches the finish of my new guitar.
Here is one idea that I really like, but I need to customize it to make it mine. I would like the date of my diagnosis on it, I want the drop of liquid to be clear (not red,) and it seems to me this is upside down (relative to the arm.)
There are a few others I have seen that I really like too, so I'm undecided as of yet. Soon though. Very soon.
A couple of things if you don't mind ...why do you want the word 'Diabetic' on there? Also - have you considered the colors and their 'value' ... red ink fades really fast and low contrast means it will look muddy in a few years.
I like the idea, but I don’t understand the need for the date of diagnosis. And yes, I would have it read from the other direction.
Why do I want the word 'Diabetic' on there? Because I am diabetic (seems obvious.) I do not want there to be any doubt in the mind of any medical personnel who are treating me that they are dealing with someone who has diabetes. If there is no trauma or other indication as to why I am in need of medical assistance it could very well be something related to diabetes. The 'T1' is important because it indicates Type 1 diabetes -- meaning that I am insulin dependent and, therefore, on insulin therapy. That is equally important.
The red color for the Star of Life is something I've not yet firmly decided upon. On the one hand, the Star of Life is typically blue. I have nothing against blue. But all similar tattoos I have seen have it in red, and I'm not sure why. If there is a reason for that I would like to know what it is. Either way, if I live long enough to have to have it touched up because of it fading, whatever color I ultimately choose, I will gladly accept the inconvenience!! lol
I don't need the date of diagnosis. I want the date of diagnosis. Why? I don't know. I guess because the date I was diagnosed was the date that changed my life more profoundly than any other date I can think of. I was 24 at the time. That was 31+ years ago. On that day in 1987, everything changed.
I have several that cover very ugly surgical scars and am so thankful when i look in the mirror to see a pretty hummingbird instead of a brown knotted mess.
What tattoo do you want?
If I was going to get a tattoo, it would be one like these, but with the Hulk.
Your kidding aren't you?
@Earthling50 Nope, but I like the Hulk better. It's more me. Lol! I wouldn't mess around with anything else. YOLO!
@JohnINFP Looks like someone burnt a hole in your chest and a tarantula is coming out ...yuk! ...and scary! I couldn't date anyone who had any of those on their chest ... they are creepy weird; hard to look at. I think you'd get sick of them pretty fast.
@Earthling50 what has a Tarantula ever done to you? ?
@JohnINFP some people are fascinated by insects but most would not want them on their body (I sure wouldn't). On the other hand, some people are terrified (Arachnophobia). With so many beautiful things to adorn your body why go for shock value? ....that wears thin pretty quick. BUT then again - it's your body so do what you like

@Earthling50 I'm a little scared of spiders. They move so fast. But I'm learning that just because people are scared of them doesn't make them bad at all. Many of them seem quite gentle. sure
A giant Hulk tattoo would be shocking to some. But when I do something special, I like to go big. the shock value would be there. I would be doing it because Hulk is my favorite superhero. I always wated to be him. ?
@JohnINFP I’d rather ‘go big’ in other areas of life than spoil my body; would opt for a picture of a superhero than a tattoo but you do what you want. ?
