A cute slimy salamander that I found under some firewood. Slimy salamanders are common, locally, but secretive and not often seen.

My first female atlas is eclosing right now! No matter how many times I witness this I'll never get tired of seeing it.

I went fishing on the Salmon River in Pulaski, NY. I didn't have any success with the salmon run (it was a bit early), but I was delighted to see a giant swallowtail nectaring along the river. That was a real surprise, so far north.

This horse just walked over the dune and later down for the rest of the day . We called Park service and they watched him the next day and he finally got up and walked off . They said he was pretty old the hot sand probably felt good .

Went bug hunting after the park with my daughter. We dug up an ant lion (put it back and watched it start its trap again), a pseudoscorpion, a spider that I've never seen before and some sort of flying insect unknown to me.

Just a praying mantis we found on our we to feed the ducks. First brown one I've seen in ages, usually only find the green ones. On a side note, I am going to start referring to them as a preying mantis.
