Pretty moths from last night: rosy maple moth, lemon plais, furcula, and one of the prominents, but I'm not sure which species. Gotta dig out the Covell's for an ID on that one.

My native stick insect eggs have started to hatch! I had almost given up hope that they would. This species is Diapheromera femorata. They will feed on oak leaves.

Some of the cool insects that showed up last night. It was 70°F and very humid at 11pm--a great combination. These are: a huge species of cranefly, a male luna, a dotted prominent, Abbott's sphinx (which has very cool caterpillars!), and a ...

My Nhandu tripepii (Brazilian Giant ) Champagne is finally out and about. It’s been a strange winter and she had been hiding most of it, unusual for her. They can grow 7-9 inches. She’s getting there.

Molly is an 18yr. old red-eared slider who came to the clinic to be seen for restlessness and inappetence. I've known Molly for 11yrs. and I suspected I knew what she was up to. Her doc okayed an x-ray, and it confirmed my suspicions. She's a ...

A big Prionid beetle that caused an even bigger fuss at work! Panicky co-workers came to get me because there was a huge "cockroach" in the waiting room. It was just this guy, a native root-boring beetle, who was probably attracted to the lights ...
