Last night my dogs were in combat at the fenceline with something that totally sounded like a giant kazoo. Anybody have a clue of what that might have been?

My dogs checking out a very angry Eastern gartersnake. No dogs or snakes were injured! Before the dogs could get too nosy I moved the snake to the other side of our fence and set it free.

A spotted salamander, a Jefferson's salamander and an Eastern newt, just 3 of the 41 salamanders I found last night while surveying some vernal pools. Final tally was: 1 spotted, 2 Eastern newts, and 38 Jefferson's. It is still early in the season,...

A sampling of the amphibians I moved off the road, tonight. Wood frogs, spring peepers, a small greenfrog, and 4 big female spotted salamanders.

Some from 4/13/18, during the day. Eastern painted turtle.... The only turtles I've seen yet this year, but some of the prettiest that we have in the state.

This is Gumby. She’s my Madagascar Giant Day Gecko. She’s quite a character. We’ve bonded over many moments of stuck shed removals (some of these guys are prone to shedding problems despite all you do to keep the right humidity).

One more... This is one of my all time luckiest shots: mantis preying on cicada. I didn't see the catch itself; but was out shooting bugs when I noticed this going on... Vicious!

Here's one to balance out the ugliness of the decapitated vole post... Earlier this year, my wife spotted this red tailed hawk, and saw it again in the same spot hours later... We went back, ready with a towel, and rescued it- wing injury, probably ...

I was too tired to spend much time looking at the insect sheet last night, but here are a few of the neater looking moths that visited: Colorful zale, Eastern panthea, arched hooktip.

Sunrise at the insect sheet. Lights are shut down and it's time to send the moths on their way.
