One more. I found this poor guy in the middle of an active logging site. Fearing for his safety, I found him a new home. It is at a christian retreat/camp, but he doesn't seem to mind being baptised.

Well now I've gone and done it. I've gone over the edge. My reptile "family" has grown from a pair of Green Anoles to a trio, a trio of Long Tail Grass Lizards and a House Gekko. I had to separate them because it was too crowded with all those ...

FINALLY! I've got something (or rather, someONE) to post! This cutie was waiting at my front door after my workout. He's almost one inch long! He should get quite the buffet at the porch light. (:

This is a spider who has moved several times due to my mowing the yard. It's difficult to mow and not tear down webs. It's OK now. Leafhead, this is not a common barn spider. Maybe a common 'yard spider'? Anyway, it's big. Here is a head shot and an ...

Have you ever seen a male bald faced hornet? You probably have without realizing it. The difference in appearance between male and female is subtle and is usually most obvious in the antennae. Male hymenopterans do not sting, so they can be ...

After visiting the Great Insect Fair, the mothman and I went to the Scotia Barrens to look for buck moths (Hemileuca maia). We weren't too hopeful, as it's a bit early for buck moths to be flying and we haven't had much cool weather. However, it ...

Does anyone else here keep ants? Its surprisingly easy, and fun! This is my prize Crematogaster sp. colony. The largest ant to the left of the brood pile is the queen; I caught her in July and now she's raised a colony of about 40-50 workers.

I may (haha) just be a big old weirdo but I was fascinated to watch these tiny ants relay a relatively large wasp straight up a perpendicular wall. It was an impressive feat!
