For now they have had some success. In general, the Kurds are more open to women with power, at least some. I doubt much movement for women will occur in the Mideast outside of the Kurds for quite a while.

Not all kurds. Mostly the socialist ones. Similarly, socialist arabs have more liberated attitudes to women.
