I have made him the main feature by me in today's "Traditional and Folkmusic" posts. Thanks for the intro @Lutherzme.
An interesting post yet again identifying the American problem. Eugene Debs's situation reminds me of Glasgow's John McLean similarly imprisoned for his anti war stance. McLean coined the phrase "War is a rifle and bayonet with a working class man at either end".

Carl von Ossietzky, a German pacifist, was convicted of espionage for exposing the clandestine German re-armament in violation of the Treaty of Versailles. In 1935 he was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. In 1990, his daughter, Rosalinde von Ossietzky-Palm, called for a resumption of proceedings, but the verdict was upheld by the Federal Court of Justice in 1992.

@FrayedBear Well ... just yesterday I asked myself why the Germans had to recycle the Austrian imerial anthem 。。。 The Austrians had tremendous influence over the Germanitude ... and to this day some Austrian clans are extremely powerful because of their wealth.
