A little more on bird feeding, this one is thoughtful and in depth, with some great video footage too.
He would be welcome too, as long as something is left. I keep getting a squirrel visit and trying to get a photo, but they are very quick and wary, but I will have their mug shots one day.
I had a bird feeder outside a window and loved watching the birds attracted to it. The problem was that it created a food chain effect in that the increase in the birds attracked predatory birds - mostly hawks. After finding evidence of attacks and once witnessing an attack on the property, I decided to stop filling the feeder. I became afraid for my small dogs as well. Having a few good sized hawks around, they may decide they might want to try mammal instead of bird one day.
I don't put out seeds for the birds (don't get me started). I do have a suet feeder which does help them get a little more fat in their diet during the winter.
