My granddaughter brought me a bouquet of mums last month. When it was time to toss them I put them in an outdoor pot instead. Three of them are greening up from from the bottom and sprouting leaves. Damndest thing I've ever seen. After them being dyed different colors and sitting in the chemical solution for over a week I never expected that.
Question is should I prune the dead top off the one that still has a dead top or take a wait and see approach???
Edit: The top is actually over half the stem.

I had three Mums in pots last fall, cut them back and left them over the winter, just started watering them again a couple of months back and I have several dozen ready to be transplanted in another couple of weeks. These are hardy plants, just give them the basics and they will provide lots of colour for you.

It is my understanding that flowers need to be deadheaded for optimum blooms and health.
