This summer has been really rough on my butterflies. It has been months since I have seen anyone feeding on my passion vine. 2 days ago I saw a female laying eggs, today I saw these two very small caterpillars. I'm hoping they make it to adulthood. Normally this time of year I would normally have thousands of these little bugs chowing down.
Not one leopard frog. I used to have thousands. Pollinators are way down. The eco system is crashing before our eyes. I pity our posterity tho I personally have none.
I'm worried about this generation of toads since it is so latte in the season, will they have time to fatten up by the time they hibernate.? I'll do what I can to help them mature . I'll feed the tadpoles, but once they disperse, they're on their own. It is so dry in this area that we don't have frogs.
The ecology is definitely changing for the worse.
I can barely grasp how drastically our world is changing on so many levels, and what permanent change we will see in the coming years. Over here I am seeing more butterflies than in years past, and hope that continues.
The butterflies are easy to care for and to attract.. Just plant the things they like to eat (brood and nectar plants). Try to identify the butterfly, then look up what their brood plants are.
The heat and lack of rain has been hard on all species unfortunately.
