It is still about 4 weeks away from our average last frost date in Wasilla Alaska, but that does not stop me from working on my garden almost every day. Timing is very important to maximize yields... as the weather warms up I will move flats out into...

A Heart survives, and Purples arrive: I think I got a tainted load of mulch last year, for my Bleeding Heart didn't even make an appearance, among other garden casualties. A tiny flash of pink caught my eye today, and look at this little champ I ...

I found a decomposing dead fish that washed up from the lake when I was mowing this afternoon. I decided to play Indian and buried it about a foot down in my sickly asoaragus bed. If the cat doesn't dig it up it's bound to help some.

The walls are now up on the 10' x 30' green house that I am building out of some leftover 25M rebar and some 6x6 GWG wire sheeting. I will leave it open until September as a barrier against the voracious, island deer and then cover it with double ...

I seem to have created a monster. When we first moved here there was a smallish crabapple tree. It was engulfed with a wisteria but was a bit unusual in that it had purple leaves and tiny, berry sized fruit. I cleared the wisteria and constantly ...

We had an early morning visitor today, guess the cow jumped over the moon and landed in our backyard. He was a bit skittish and as soon as I opened the door he made a beeline back to the hole in the farmer's fence through which he/she had escaped.

Attached is a picture of my tomato plants today. They grew to almost 10 feet tall then fell over and formed a canopy between the rows. The tallest now are still between 8 and 9 feet tall.

A full flower moon last night and it should be even nicer tonight if you have clear skies to view it from your garden. The first buds are on the trees and the daffodils have made their appearance, good things to come I hope.

Grown under the cover of some row cover to protect it from the frost that is still a regular threat until the end of May, sweet asparagus spears plucked fresh from the garden and made into a cheese and asparagus omelette.
